Introduction
Akito the Exiled was not exactly the masterpiece that many fans had hoped for. But if you take it for what it was it’s an enjoyable OVA that added lore to the Code Geass Universe.
So in this article, I want to go over the main takeaways from Code Geass Akito the Exiled. These points will dive into addition to the lore that could affect future Code Geass stories in the future. I will be discussing parts from Akito the Exiled and the original Code Geass series. Make sure you have seen both before reading.
Enjoy

#3 Leila and Akito Are Still Alive in the Code Geass Universe

Since Akito the Exiled takes place between R1 and R2 the characters and events are cannon in the universe. This means both Leila and Akito are now part of this world and we could see them again in future stories.
One thing that was pointed out by AnimeUproar is that Leila still has a contract with C.C. so that could be a factor in things to come.
I would also like to add that the effect of Shin’s Geass may also still be affecting Akito much like how Lelouch’s continued to affect Suzaku even after his “death”. So this could be another important element that plays out.
I have this crazy idea that in a future Code Geass series we could have Akito and Leila working with C.C. and Lelouch. It would make an interesting story but what do you guys think?

#2 We Have Only Seen a Taste of How Innovative the Knightmare Frames Can Be

In Akito the Exiled all of the Knightmare Frames are created with CGI. Yes, the CGI was hard to look at sometimes but it did allow for really epic battles with the Knightmare Frames.
Combat might have been too fast to follow at times but the fights were more personal and intense than in the original series which by the way were not bad, to begin with.
We see some of these ideas used in Lelouch of the Re;surrection. I am glad in that film they used the CGI more conservatively.
I am excited to see how they could use transfer the combat style from fighting on land to air battles. Another interesting to note was how several of the new Knightmare Frames can switch from standing on two feet to a mode where it can crawl on all fours like a spider. In combat, you can see that the pilot can change these modes on the fly.
We had Knightmare Frames like the Tristan or Shinkiro that can change from flight mode to combat mode in R2. But those transformations are nothing on the level of the Alexander or the Vercingetorix.
I am curious to see where the creators go in the future for more Knightmare designs. In the latest film, we are introduced to the Knightmare FrameBatalalan Du which is was a unique scorpion-looking Knightmare Frame that fought Kallen.
From what we have seen in Akito the Knightmare Frames and combat involving will continue to improve.

#1 This Anime Opens Up the Possibilities for Stories Like This One

Akito the Exiled is a story that takes place in the E.U between the events of R1 and R2.
We have seen other stories in the Code Geass universe that take place in a similar time period or even sometime in the distant past.
However, I would like it if we could get stories that have main characters other than Lelouch, C.C., Suzaku, etc. What makes Akito the Exiled unique is that the main characters are not people from the original series.
Sure Lelouch, Suzaku, and C.C. have roles in the anime but the main story is not about them.
I would love to see stories about what was going on in the Chinese Federation during the Zero Requiem. Heck, I would like to see how the Zero Requiem affected Akito and Leila in the E.U (maybe we can get a sequel to Akito the Exiled).
It might also be interesting is get OVAs that dive into the backstory of other characters like the Knights of the Round or the Royal family.
Sure we get some back story shown in the anime but an entire OVA devoted to them would be awesome. The point here is that while Akito the Exiled was not the best addition to the Code Geass universe it definitely opens the door to possible sequels and future OVA’s

Final Thoughts
Despite its faults Akito the Exiled did expand the Code Geass universe by introducing new concepts.
- We see that Geass has new lore and possibilities that could impact the Code Geass universe.
- Space travel could be the future as Code Geass could transition into a series like Macross or Space Battle Yamato.
- We have established characters that we could see again in future OVAs and Series.
- Finally, the Knightmare Frames introduced in this OVA have new abilities that could see in future series.
Even if you are not a fan of Akito the Exiled I think we all can be excited about what new developments could happen in the future of Code Geass installments that originate from something introduced in this OVA.
