These are the Top 15 Kallen Kozuki Quotes that Represent the Essence of her Character

Code Geass is more than intense KMF fights, a bit of fanservice, and one exiled Britannian’s prince rebellion against an entire country. It’s also a story of philosophy and the discussion of fascinating ideas.

One of the ways we experience those ideas is through dialogue. So this will be the first of many articles where I go through my favorite quotes from different characters in Code Geass. I am going to kick this party off with Kallen Kozuki.

The format of this article will be simple for each quote I will the quote, where it was used describing the situation and why I like it so much. This will list my top 15 quotes in no particular order.

Spoiler alert here and with that in mind these are my Top 15 Kallen Kozuki quotes.

The Quote:

“So what if you fail this time can’t you come up with another plan to get it back? just give us orders like you always do. Should I use my Knightmare or maybe play decoy? Tell me I do whatever you say. Snap out of it Lelouch you’re Zero now you have an obligation you’ve got to live up to the dream you once gave us all. so please keep fooling us until you know longer can we need you to be Zero this time with all your heart. Play your role as you mean it.”

When this happens: This occurs when Kallen prevents Lelouch from taking refrain. He felt lost and with the special administrative zone re-opening and the Black Knights and his goals will fail.

Why I like this Quote: Because Kallen gives Lelouch a pep talk to get him back in line. She reminds him of who is and what he must do. Much like Suzaku later on, Kallen begs Lelouch to be Zero even just to pretend. This shows the unhealthy reliance that Kallen shows towards Lelouch. It’s an emotional moment and what Kallen says simply adds to it.

The Quote:

“mother your sentence… you’ve got 20 years. But you wait I am working to change things when you get out I swear to you. I will make a world where you and I can live a normal life again. So please mother. Don’t you worry, I will I promise you”

When this happens: After Kallen saves her mother when the Black Knights raid a refrain dealer

Why I like this Quote: We learn from this quote that much like Lelouch, Kallen is also fighting so she can live a normal life with her mother. Lelouch is fighting for his sister. Through two quotes from Kallen, we learn that she fights for her mother and for the sacrifice of her brother. It’s a powerful quote because Kallen is crying and is emotionally hurt at the sight of her mother. Remember she realized in this episode the mother stayed around for her. We don’t much time between the two but when we do it’s special

The Quote:

“Zero I’m here your elite guard Kallen Kozuki is back on the battle line. Kallen Kozuki Turn 18”

When this happens: Kallen says this when she saves Lelouch from the Valkrie squad during the battle of Tokyo Two

Why I like this Quote: This my favorite Kallen moment in Code Geass. Beyond that we see her kick ass in the Guren Seiten Eight Elements. And Kallen is the most beautiful during that scene. You really appreciate her pretty face.

The Quote:

“You have no country. you have nothing to avenge. You also don’t have a shred of ambition. Someone who has no reason to fight should just leave.”

When this happens: Kallen says this when fighting C.C. as Lelouch is stopping Schneizel in the Damocles

Why I like this Quote: Kallen is a mixed bag of emotions here. First of all, she realizes that C.C. has feelings for Lelouch and it might be mutual. Second, she can’t stand C.C. in general because she always appears as a lazy person with no ambitions. Third, she’s aware that C.C. has no stakes in this so her presence indicators. I like the quote because all of this bottle-up emotion all come out in a very passionate way as Kallen screams at C.C.

The Quote:

“I need an answer, Lelouch. What do I mean to you? I have to know. If I could stay with you I would. Please.”

When this happens: During the Black Knights betrayal as they confront him.

Why I like this Quote: Lelouch during this time lost Nunnally his reason for living and C.C. since her memories are gone. With nothing left the Black Knights’ betrayal seemed almost inevitable. Kallen was determined to be with him until the end. Kallen confession here is demanding that Lelouch make a decision do you love me? do you care about me? Lelouch calling her his most valuable piece got her into tears. Kallen put her all cards on the table and confessed her feelings for Lelouch and that’s why this quote gets me. Kallen felt rejected but still remained hopeful when Lelouch told her to live.

The Quote:

“Lelouch you were deceiving me right from the very beginning… Both of them. Tell me this did you use your Geass on me like you did the others? Did you twist my mind and my heart and make me follow you?. LELOUCH! Don’t move. I wanted to believe so much that I become a slave. But the one that I believe in is Zero. Just him it’s not you Lelouch”

When this happens: This right after Lelouch got his memories back and is leading the Black Knights against Calares

Why I like this Quote: Kallen in my opinion is asking two questions here. Did you use Geass on me? And if so did you twist my mind to follow you? Kallen at this point is not sure what to believe. Did she follow Zero willingly or through Geass. We can tell that you thought it was through Geass. Her resolve gets her to again follow Zero, not Lelouch because Lelouch used them for his own goals but Zero fights for Japan so that’s the man that she follows. This is the first of many times where Kallen struggles with if the man she likes is Lelouch of Zero.

The Quote:

“The face of the kind older brother and the mask of Zero. Which is the real Lelouch?”

When this happens: After Kallen has learned about the real Lelouch through Nunnally

Why I like this Quote: Kallen prior to this see only saw Lelouch as this manipulative and evil individual who uses others for his own ill-gotten gain. But through Nunnally, she learns who Lelouch the kind older brother is. As someone who had an older brother, this changed her whole perspective on him. This quote resembles the inner struggle she has between which Lelouch is the real one. If Lelouch is a kind and caring person Kallen would love to be with someone like that.

The Quote:

“As expected all sorts of hatred and evil deeds have been blamed on you. Maybe that’s because people find it a lot easier to accuse a person with a name rather than a piece of technology called Damocles”

When this happens: After the Zero requiem ends and Kallen starts to head to school.

Why I like this Quote: Kallen explains the outcome of the Zero Requiem it was a nice way to summarize what was going on. And convey the hypocrisies of mankind. This is just a snippet of the whole monologue where Kallen explains who the world has become a better place. She misses Lelouch but still is moving on in life.

The Quote:

“I am not you the world is wrong and I’m trying to change it. If I don’t… if I don’t my brother’s death would have been for nothing. That’s my reason for fighting. And I will do whatever it takes to win”

When this happens: When she talks to Suzaku on Kamine Island

Why I like this Quote: This quote explains Kallen’s other motivation for fighting with Zero. The first was so she could live in a kinder world for her mother. She also wants to change the world for her brother so his death has meaning. Kallen is very passionate about her beliefs and this response to Suzaku is a great example of it.

The Quote:

“I’ve made my choice I will follow you to the very end”

When this happens: When Lelouch and Kallen talk at Port Yokosuka after the funeral for Shirley’s dad

Why I like this Quote: Kallen had second thoughts about everything when someone close was hurt do her actions. Arguable Kallen was the one that killed Shirley’s dad. Lelouch was going through the same feelings earlier. Before Kallen says this she questions if this will even fix anything is the right thing to do. Lelouch assures that it will and we must move forward because of the sacrifices. He gives Kallen an out but she then lets Lelouch know that she will be with him to the end. Many have argued that Kallen lied here since she leaves him several times after this but keep in mind part of that was Lelouch’s fault.

The Quote:

“No matter how many enemies are coming!”

When this happens: When Kallen is using the Guren MK2 with the flight enable mode for the first time

Why I like this Quote: There is nothing too deep here. We understand Kallen’s resolve here. No matter the obstacle she will prevail she always expresses when fighting in the Guren MK2.

The Quote:

“Excuse me, is this really going to improve the interfacing system?”

When this happens: Kallen asks Rakshata this when she first puts on the new suit that she will wear when piloting the Guren MK2.

Why I like this Quote: This is the most light-hearted quote on the list. I like it because through Kallen the show is breaking the fourth wall and commenting on the blatant fan service. It got a chuckle out of me and that’s why it’s here.

The Quote:

“It’s clear to me now that I misjudged you, Suzaku. Even though we’re on opposite sides and methods differ from one another, I always thought you cared about Japan in your own way. But now…”

When this happens: This is what Kallen tells Suzaku before their final battle on the Damocles

Why I like this Quote: This dialogue is important because it explains the relationship between Kallen and Suzaku. It makes it clear that Kallen respected that Suzaku was doing his own thing to save Japan. There was a feeling of mutual respect but after Suzaku’s latest actions Kallen no longer feels this way and is completely angry at him. I think Kallen started to gain respect for Suzaku after Kamine Island and the school festival in Stage 21 they got to talk and that helped Kallen understand things.

The Quote:

“Welcome it’s been a while hasn’t it? What do you say we get this …”

When this happens: Kallen says to everyone at the cafe and on some level to the audience watching to start the film.

Why I like this Quote: On the surface, there is much substance here. The reason why it made the list is that this moment was significant. This was the first brand new Code Geass animation that continued the main story since R2. So, this quote is significant because it introduces us back to the universe after a decade of waiting. Kallen thanks for welcoming us back it really has been a while.

The Quote:

“Lelouch after everything we have been through what do I mean to you? On the day you left the Ikaruga you told me Kallen you have to live.”

When this happens: Kallen talks to Lelouch in the clubhouse room before he heads off to vote for the UFN.

Why I like this Quote: Kallen laid it all on the line in Ikaruga when she asked Lelouch what he thought of her. She got one thing from that which was the request that she must live. Kallen was thankful that the Black Knights did not kill him because she finally gets her chance. What’s so powerful about this scene is that Kallen goes one step beyond her confession in the Ikaruga. She not only asks Lelouch what do I mean to you? And Why did you tell me to live? She kisses him at this point if Lelouch does not respond then Kallen now knows where the two stand.
