Introduction

Besides the expansive anime for Code Geass, there exists the Manga. This article will go through all the Manga and list the reading order.

Also, read to the end because I have a Free printout that you can use for future reference.

This printout will take everything that I have discussed and put it all together in an easy to follow manner.

I also created a less fancy table that also lists the same information and provides links.

Disclaimer: there will be light spoilers so make sure you are familiar with Code Geass before reading.

I will not be explaining the anime referenced in this article so make sure to read the watch order for Code Geass first then this one.

You can read the Code Geass Manga in any order, but my order here ensures that:

1. You do not read a Manga that spoils other Manga that was released prior.
2. That you read the Manga in Chronolocial order

This article does not contain All Code Geass Manga and Visual Novels. I only put Manga on here that I could actually get a hold of or learn what is in it. I will add more to the list after reading them. This applies to Visual Novels as well.

What are They?

Oz of the Reflection is a Manga that takes place between Lelouch of the Rebellion (anime) and Lelouch of the Rebellion R2.

Chapters: 24, Volumes: 5

Oz of the Reflection O2 is a sequel to Oz of the Reflection (duh). The story now takes place during the events of Lelouch of the Rebellion R2,

Chapters: 20, Volumes: 5

The main story is about two characters Orpheus a terrorist and Oldrin a soldier in the Britannian military fighting in the Glinda knights.
And their journey between and after the events of the black rebellion.
This Manga has many references to the Wizard of OZ in the names of groups and people.

When You Should Read Them?

Read Oz of the Reflection after finishing Lelouch of the Rebellion (anime). As it recaps Lelouch of the Rebellion (anime) and starts right after the Black Rebellion.

Read Oz of the Reflection O2 after finishing Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 since this Manga takes place during R2 and will spoil parts of R2.

Do You Need to Read Oz of the Reflection?

If you are satisfied with Lelouch of the Rebellion R1 and R2 then no.

For reading other Code Geass Manga and playing Genesis:RE Code then you need to read this.

What’s My Take On It?

What’s interesting about this one is how they connect the events in this Manga to the main story without causing any continuity issues.

If you want a clear picture of what happened after R1 and during R2 then this one is a definite read. It adds new Geass lore, great characters, awesome KMFs.

Also much like Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion R1 and R2 there is fanservice in this one. A bit too much if you asked me but at least it’s not too distracting. I guess with Code Geass it comes with the territory.

There are some great action sequences and I enjoyed the story. Unfortunately, I could not read O2 online since it’s hard to find an English version. Instead, I saw a summary video on it.

An excellent story that hardcore fans will enjoy.

What is it?

This was the manga that came out at the same time as Akito the Exiled. It takes place before the events of Lelouch of the Rebellion anime and manga.

Chapters: 40, Volumes: 7

When You Should Read It?

Technically you can read this anytime since it does come before every other story. However, make sure to read it before:

Code Geass: Lancelot & Guren

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Re;

And Code Geass: I Am the Garden of Reminiscence

Since these Manga spoil parts from it.

Do You Need to Read Renya of Darkness?

You do not need to if you were satisfied with Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R1 and R2.

Like Oz of the Reflection if you plan on playing Genesis:RE Code then read it.

It’s required reading if you plan on reading Code Geass: Lancelot & Guren, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Re;, And Code Geass: I Am the Garden of Reminiscence.

What’s My Take On It?

I enjoyed the story but there were certain elements that dragged this one down. For one thing, the fan service was distracting and unnecessary it also relies heavily on common anime tropes.

But it does add to the lore with awesome new characters and Geass powers. It has great action and I liked Renya and C.C. in this story. This Manga also explorers stuff that you would not normally see in a Code Geass story.

If you like Shonen Manga you will probably enjoy this one since it shares many aspects of that genre.
