Introduction

Lelouch vi Britannia is one of the most important characters in Code Geass. So it makes sense that I would eventually create a fact list about him. My goal is to make it more interesting than the CBR counterpart.

Like my other lists, some of the points here are theories where I prove using evidence. I like to put some theories here instead of just boring facts because you can find those on the wiki page for Lelouch. So, if you can look up the facts on a site like Wikipedia why even read the article.

Disclaimer; do not read unless you have watched both the original Code Geass series and Akito the Exiled. I am going to spoil key parts of both those series. Since we now got all objectives out of the way lets’ begin.

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #10 He Has the Most Identities

Lelouch throughout each series had to assume different identities. Some were forced on him whether it was due to Geass, high school, etc. What’s so interesting about the personalities is people were fooled into thinking that each one was the real Lelouch. Kallen for example went through this dilemma.

Lelouch has four identities in the original series plus the ova.

  • Lelouch Lamperouge
  • Lelouch as Zero
  • Lelouch as Julius Kingsley
  • And his actual name Lelouch vi Britannia.

Lelouch had to become Zero to lead the Japanese against Britannia, Kinglsey to serve Charles his father, and Lemperouge so he could attend high school while hiding his nobility.

What I love is that just like how the lead women in this series as well as the fans favored a different personality. Each personality is different and shows different sides to this interesting character.

It was very entertaining to see Lelouch talk about Zero as Lelouch or when he saw photos of himself on posters and even on trains. I love the part in R2 Turn 1 where Lelouch under Charles Geass insults Zero’s plan.

Which of the identities was your favorite?

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #9 He Is Terrible at Knightmare Frame Combat

Lelouch is a brilliant mastermind for sure and can pilot a Knightmare Frame better than the average pilot. Just do not let him fight someone who is actually skilled in Knightmare Frame combat. Lelouch seems to have the ability to give commands to others but when it comes to fighting himself he tends to struggle.

There are many examples but here are three that always stuck out to me.

  • He lost to Cornelia in the Gaiwan which is way more powerful than Cornelia’s Gloucester.
  • He let go of his shields without realizing that created an opening for Luciano Bradley to attempt to kill him.
  • Lelouch has to use underhand/ cowardly tactics to defeat competent pilots since he could never defeat a strong pilot on this own.

Lelouch is not a juggernaut for fighting which is fine since that is what Suzaku’s character is supposed to be. I like this flaw as it makes combat situations with Lelouch more interesting since we know he has to find a unique way to win. This point stays true to Lelouch’s essence as a person who relies on brains over brawn.

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #8 He Never Had a Claim to the Throne by the End of the Series

I love the scene at the end of R2 Turn 20 where Lelouch comes back to surprise his family and informs them that he killed Charles. Everyone while in shock ordered the guards to kill him only for Suzaku to stop them allowing Lelouch to use his Geass on everyone to acknowledge him as emperor.

Something about this always bothered me and it was when Lelouch said “I am Lelouch 99th in line to the throne of Britannia”. The reason why is Lelouch in R1 Stage 7 states that he gives up his claim to the throne which is called Abdication. From the research that I conducted when someone does this they cannot get their claim back (correct me if I am wrong)

Obviously, Lelouch can use his Geass to become emperor regardless if he actually had a claim to the throne or not. I just found it interesting that acts as if he never abdicated.

Maybe he forgot about it or purposely chose to ignore it. Charles calls Lelouch the former prince of Britannia as did Schneizel. The rest of the family seemed to have forgotten.

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #7 He Only Accomplished 1/3 of Goals

Lelouch since the beginning of Code Geas has three main goals

  1. Destroy Britannia
  2. Get Revenge for his Mother’s death
  3. Make a kinder world for Nunnally to live.

There are obvious sub-goals under those but I am trying to simplify things. But when you actually look at the end of the series how many of these goals does Lelouch actually accomplish. Keep in mind I am aware that his goals changed throughout the series but this is examining the initial reasons why Lelouch started the Rebellion.

Lelouch does not destroy Britannia in fact he ends up ruling it during the Zero Requiem. Even after his death Britannia still remains a world power albeit a force of good.

For the second goal, Lelouch does get revenge for his mother’s death by killing V.V. but he did not know that V.V. killed his mother at the time. Ironically Lelouch actually kills his own mother when he realized she never cared about him or Nunnally. So not only did Lelouch not get his vengeance he did a 180 and killed his own mother.

He does scream “mother” after using his Geass on Charles in Turn 15. But since Charles did not die and was not responsible for his mother’s death, Lelouch still did not get revenge for his mother’s death.

For the last point, Lelouch does make a kinder place for Nunnally to live in. So in the end Nunnally was really the most important thing to Lelouch and that’s why of the three goals helping Nunnally was the only one that Lelouch actually accomplished.

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #6 He Is a Super Genius in More Ways Than One

I have seen several critiques on Lelouch. One of those is that he only seems smart because, by contrast, his enemies are really dumb. Let me debunk this by going over how brilliant Lelouch actually is.

  • Lelouch can calculate the Shrinko’s shields a task that Rolo states to be very difficult.
  • He is able to multi-task and run two separate organizations at once without any issues (school festival and the Black Knights)
  • Lelouch is able to hack into almost anything and figure out the inner working of even the wiring of a bomb.
  • Diethard has noted how Lelouch is able to see the battlefield and conduct strategy in a way no one else can.
  • Lelouch is a brilliant chess player and often beats chess masters for money.
  • Lelouch is very charismatic and is able to motivate anyone to follow him.
  • He can gauge a situation and figure out the best course of action even when he has to make a split decision.
  • Lelouch can predict what his opponents will say.
  • In addition to being charismatic Lelouch is excellent at managing people.

I could go on but you get the point. Lelouch’s intelligence is impressive and is the driving force behind why he succeeds as Zero throughout the series.

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #5 He Would Have Made an Excellent Emperor

Lelouch as I mentioned earlier gave up his claim to the throne. Despite this, he took over anyways to become the 99th emperor of Brittania. It was too bad that his rise was due to the Zero requiem and not through normal succession.

This is a theory that of mine that if Lelouch took power outside of the Zero Requiem he would have been an excellent emperor.

  1. He is excellent at uniting all people from different backgrounds. Diethard explains this to the Black Knights when Lelouch was on Kamine Island.
  2. Lelouch cares for the weak and would have shown them the same compassion as he does for Nunnally.
  3. Lelouch wanted to end all fighting so there is a good chance he would have gone the peaceful right with the E.U and the Chinese Federation. After all, he wanted a gentle and kinder world.

If Lelouch rule with the qualities that motivated him to start the rebellion he would have been a great emperor. My only concern if he would use any of his manipulation tactics while Emperor. I will leave that for you to speculate.

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #4 The Number of People That He Used His Geass on Is Ridiculous

Lelouch’s Geass is powerful as he can target multiple people at once assuming he has eye contact with each of them. It also evolves to the highest level possible which is only something that his father Charles vi Britannia reached.

The question now is throughout the original series how many people did Lelouch use his Geass on? Well, you are in luck as I went through counted each instance. Keep in mind this total will be off by 20 – 30 people. In some scenes like the ones where Lelouch tells people to move to another car on the train, it is hard to tell exactly how many were affected.

With that in mind, Lelouch used his Geass on approximately 1546 people. He only used it on 87 people in R1 compared to 1459 in R2. The most amount he used it on was in Turn 22 when he ordered 1120 Brittanian soldiers to be his slaves (yes I counted each and everyone who was shown with a little help of multiplication).

The last person he used his Geass on was Nunnally.

I love data so this stuff naturally interests me. If you want a post that goes through all of Lelouch’s commands and people he used the Geass on let me know in the comments. I could at least do top commands from Code Geass.

Now as a straight man it’s hard for me to understand why girls find him to be hot. So ladies if you are reading this let me know why you find Lelouch to be attractive. But regardless due to this Lelouch often has to stay clear from people.

Sayoko as Lelouch got him on so many dates by simply saying yes to everyone. In that same episode, every girl was trying to grab Lelouch’s hat so they would be his girlfriend during Cupid Day. There was even a scene where three high school girls wore basically nothing to try and seduce him.

We even see an earlier part in R1 Stage 6 where Milly offered anyone who caught the cat to get a kiss from someone in the council. We get the famous scene of several girls hoping it would be from Lelouch.

I always found it odd how Shirley only had to talk to Kallen about if she liked Lelouch when like half the school did. I guess she never considered the other ladies to be a legit threat. Lelouch was truly a lucky guy even if he never appreciated it.

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #2 He Does Actually Die at the End of R2

Now to some people reading this headline you are probably rolling your eyes or quick to think of the new film that just came out. Keep in mind that the movie is from an alternative timeline and even there Lelouch did not want to come back after Suzaku stabbed him.

But the reason why I bring this is up is that people were speculating at the end of R2 if C.C. was talking about Lelouch or to him.

We now know from a picture drama and from the author that Lelouch did in fact die at the end of R2. This was here more to put to bed this rumor that he might have still been alive in the original series.

here is a post from someone on Reddit that goes further into this topic

Lelouch vi Britannia Fact/Theory #1 He Showed More Romantic Feelings For C.C. Than Shirley or Kallen.

Now before you get angry I did write an article on this where I break down Lelouch’s relationship with all the main girls from Code Geass. In that article, I prove that he only loved C.C.

Since the main authors never confirmed in the original series that Lelouch loved C.C., this is partially headcanon. But there is enough evidence in favor of C.C. over the other love interests which is why I lean in this direction.

If you want just the arguments for why he loved C.C. here they are:

  • He only opened to her and showed her his true side.
  • Literally confesses his love to her in R2 Turn 23 (what do you think would have happened had Kallen not interrupted the moment).
  • They both share many moments of teasing in the form of flirting
  • She could challenge him in a way no one else could.
  • He always went to her when he needed comfort (ex. after using Geass on Euphemia).

I would encourage you to read the article to learn more.

Also, even after reading the article and you are still not convinced then please present your counter-arguments. I would love to read them.

In addition, C.C. also loved Lelouch vi Britannia if you are interested in an article on that click here.

C.C. lives at the school dorm in the same room as Lelouch so naturally, the two would need to become comfortable living together. Suffice they say they become quite comfortable around each other.

Lelouch has seen C.C. naked at least once that we know of (after he cleaned her wound). But C.C. has shown many times to be very comfortable with changing right in front of him into her undies.

There is a scene in the show where Lelouch is in the same bed as C.C. So much for C.C. saying a gentleman would sleep on the floor.

Now I am going to assume nothing x rated ever happened while the two shared a bed but some speculate otherwise.

I love this point because when Lelouch taunts Mao about getting every aspect of C.C. even parts he has never seen I guess he was not lying.

Final Thoughts

If you got this far in the article I want to say thank you. I love to write these articles but they are not easy and can be quite time-consuming.

So, I am very appreciative when people finish the article.
