Introduction

Suzaku Kururugi’s facts are the subject of this article. After writing facts about C.C. and facts about Kallen this seemed like the next character to discuss.

If there is a specific character that you want to me discuss next let me know in the comments.

Much like my other two lists, not everything listed is a definitive fact and in some cases just a theory.

The story of Code Geass does more showing/ implying than a definitive explanation of something.

This is why these theories exist in the first place. So, items on the list are probably true and I defend my position with evidence

As always I welcome feedback and corrections. This is great because I can get feedback from you guys on my theories.

And much like the Kallen article, this will only contain ten facts. People seemed to like a shorter list so that’s what I am going to do.

Since this is for the hardcore fans who have watched Code Geass and really understand the story, disclaiming spoilers seems unnecessary but I am doing it anyway.

Now that all objectives are cleared let’s get into this one.

Suzaku Facts #10 He Is An Excellent Pilot Despite Any Initial Experience

In R1 Stage 2

Lloyd asks Suzaku “How much experiencing do you have in piloting a Knightmare Frame?”

Suzaku responds with “but there is no way an Eleven would be made a knight”

We learn from this that Suzaku never used a Knightmare Frame before. But later he got the highest score on the simulator which deemed him worthy to pilot the Lancelot.

This could imply that he had the talent but due to racism he was never going get the opportunity.

You could argue the only reason why Llyod choose Suzau was due to Britannia being unwilling to allow one of their own to test this experimental Knightmare Frame.

It just proves how much of a prodigy Suzaku is for combat. Suzaku is a quick learner to go from no experience to be able to read and pilot an experimental Knightmare Frame.

Some might call this “plot convenience” or “OP” to me it’s just establishing his character.

Suzaku Facts #9 He Only Used One Knightmare Frame in the Whole Series

There are a couple of things to note here.

  1. I am only discussing the main characters. Li Xingke and other side characters have also just used one Knightmare Frames.
  2. This is only about combat because Suzaku does use the Ganymede to try to make the pizza for the school festival. He was also going to drive the MR-1 in R2 Turn 5 but Gino piloted it instead.
  3. I am counting variants of the same Knightmare Frame as the same overall Knightmare Frame. When I say different I mean in both name and generation.

If you look at other main characters they use different Knightmare Frames.

  1. Kallen first piloted the Glasgow before the Guren MK-2,
  2. Lelouch has Piloted a Sutherland, Burai, Gawain, and Shinkiro
  3. C.C. has piloted the Shinkiro, Gawain, Lancelot Frontier, Burai, and Akatsuki Command Model Zikisan.

Since we know that Suzaku’s first Knightmare Frame experience is with the Lancelot, we do not have to worry about any events prior.

I am not sure why Suzaku only used one Knightmare Frame. Maybe it was because he wanted to master it first before moving on to another Knightmare Frame. He could also be in a situation where only knows how to pilot just the Lancelot in combat.

I am curious to see what theories you guys have.

Suzaku Facts #8 He Is One of the Few to Actually Have Been to the Sword of Akasha

Charles shows Suzaku the weapon to destroy god a.k.a the Sword of Akasha.

He explains that Suzaku is the first of the Knights of the Round and among Charles’s family to have seen it.

Now technically he says “Schneizel and the others are not aware of it”

I assume by others he means the military, family etc.

Now from the anime alone, we know that only:

  1. Marianne
  2. V.V.
  3. C.C.
  4. And Lelouch

Knows about or has been to The Sword of Akasha.

So, technically not everybody in the Royal Family did not but it would not be inaccurate to state that the majority were not aware of it.

I do suspect Bismarck might have known about by Turn 19 since he was preventing Suzaku from approaching it.

But that could have just been mindless guard duty.

What I find more interesting is the reason behind this. Charles states that Suzaku is the only one among the Knights of the Round who knows about Geass and Zero’s identity.

This was carefully worded since Bismarck has a Geass.

It was quite impressive how much more aware of things Suzaku was when compared to other elite members of the empire.

I like it how shows how much he has climbed in rank at this point.

Suzaku Facts #7 Suzaku Has Faced the Most Geass Opponents

Man Suzaku always seems to get roughed my people with Supernatural abilities.

He gets the worse of it when facing Geass users.

Interestingly enough he has faced four Geass users.

  1. Mao in R1 Stage 15
  2. Rolo in R2 Turn 5
  3. Lelouch in R1 Stage 18
  4. and Bismarck in R2 Turn 22

Now I stated he has faced the most but he really tied with Shirley who has faced:

  1. Lelouch in R1 Stage 14
  2. Rolo in R2 Turn 13
  3. Mao in R1 Stage 14
  4. Charles never showed but it’s implied he gave false memories to all members of the student council.

Nothing really special about this one it’s just something that I observed.

Suzaku Facts #6 He Is Super Strong and an Exercise Nut

One of Suzaku’s greatest strength is his literal strength. For someone who does not look that strong, Suzaku packs quite a punch.

Throughout Code Geass Suzaku performs superhuman feats including:

  1. Holding on to Lelouch as he holds on to Shirley while both hang from a ledge. It’s got to be at least 200 pounds combined that Suzaku is holding with one arm.
  2. Suzaku was able to easily run up the stairs to catch the cat (Arthur) who had Lelouch’s Zero helmet.
  3. He can generate enough speed while running to run up the sides of a wall and dodge bullets from a turret and a Knightmare Frame.
  4. Jumping long distances is no problem for him either as shown in R2 Turn 25 and R1 Stage 1.

Suzaku is truly a monster which is why it is scary when he teams up with Lelouch.

Suzaku Facts #5 He Technically Reached the Title of Knight of One

Suzaku has stated many times that his goal is to change things from within.

One of the ways he seeks to accomplish this is by becoming the Knight of One currently held by Bismarck.

By the time he faces him the Zero Requiem had already started. Lelouch at this point gave Suzaku the title of Knight of Zero.

Which Suzaku tells Bismarck is a higher title than Knight of One.

But that does not change the fact that after Suzaku kills Bismarck he does become the Knight of One.

I point this out that Suzaku does achieve his goal even if by then it no longer mattered.

Suzaku Facts #4 His Win-Loss Record Is Deceptive

One of the many times Suzaku defeated Lelouch. Code Geass R1 Episode 11 At 13m 52s

Suzaku’s Win-Loss Record against Excellent Knightmare Frame Pilots is a bit deceptive.

Let’s take a closer look at it.

He has 14 wins, 4 losses, and 13 draws.

For reference, a win is if the opposing Knightmare Frame is either too badly damaged to continue fighting or the pilot dies in battle.

A loss is when Suzaku can no longer fight due to his Knightmare Frame being too badly damaged.

A draw is when no conclusive outcome can be determined from the battle.

Suzaku has defeated:

  1. Monica Krushevsky
  2. Dorothea Ernst
  3. Bismarck Waldstein
  4. Kyoshiro Tohdoh
  5. Shalio
  6. Kallen Kozuki two times
  7. Raiko two times (not an individual pilot but he does battle it one vs one which is why it is listed here)
  8. Gino Weinberg two times
  9. Lelouch vi Britannia three times

Suzaku has lost to:

  1. Kyoshiro Tohdoh
  2. Shalio
  3. Kallen two times

Suzaku has draws against:

  1. Nagisa Chiba
  2. Shōgo Asahina
  3. Ryōga Senba
  4. Kōsetsu Urabe
  5. Kewell Soresi
  6. C.C.
  7. Li Xingke
  8. Kyoshiro Tohdoh two times (in Turn 11 Suzaku briefly takes on C.C. not enough to record but just something of interest to note)
  9. Kallen Kozuki four times

Not only has Suzaku defeated four Knights of the Round on his own but he defeated them back to back at one time in R2 Turn 22. He basically cleaned house.

I find the number of draws interesting because it seems like Suzaku’s intentions on the battlefield are not to win.

But that is just a theory and I would like to hear your thoughts on it.

Also, it’s hard to count his wins against Lelouch early one since there was a large gap in piloting skill and Knightmare Frame abilities.

I did not count this but he has defeated Shinichirō Tamaki three times.

Suzaku Facts #3 He Is the Most Hated Character in the Series

This is one is purely subjective and I base it on forums that I have seen online.

There are many characters in Code Geass that the fans do not like (like Nina ).

But I think Suzaku is up there for sure.

It is obvious because Suzaku is the greatest obstacle in Lelouch’s way.

Since you are supposed to root for Lelouch, you are naturally going to hate Suzaku.

For me personally, the scene where bring Lelouch to Charles was hard to watch.

This is one of those moments where I got angry at Suzaku.

I think the other reason why fans cannot stand Suzaku is that they hate his stupidy.

There is some truth to that but it’s blown out of proportion and I will address it in the future.

Regardless of how you feel about Suzaku, he does serve the role of Lelouch opposition really well.

Which means he is a great character.

Suzaku Facts #2 He Proved That His Philosophy Was Not Wrong

Suzaku has stated from the beginning that he believes that change must come from within.
Suzaku acts on this by joining the military to move up in rank.

He goes from a soldier to Euphemia’s Knight to, Knight of Honor, to the Knight of Seven, to the Knight of Zero, and ends with becoming Zero

Now during each promotion, Suzaku became a bigger symbol for the people of Japan.

This is was why the Black Knights could not kill him because it would cause distress among the people.

It also proved how far Elevens could go in this new Britannian controlled Japan.

But only when Suzaku became the Knight of Zero did he truly enact change from within in the form of the Zero Requiem.

Which could have only occurred because Suzaku had kept rising in rank.

By the end, he helps create peace and he did it by working in the system albeit a conspiracy.

But to counter that point he was under Lelouch’s instructions who was the emperor.

The point here is Suzaku was not wrong that change had to come from within since that is what it took to bring peace to the world.

Suzaku Facts #1 Lelouch’s Geass Has the Longest Effect on Him

Lelouch was testing his Geass after receiving it from C.C. One of those was how long it lasted.

He makes a girl mark a cross on a wall every day at school. She starts at R1 Stage 5 and by R2 Turn 17 we see that marks on the wall have stopped.

I am not sure why she stopped or how long she was under the effects of the Geass.

It must have been between 1 – 2 years. R2 takes place a year after R1 and the girl had the Geass effect since R1 Stage 5 this why it is at least a year but not more than two years.

Suzaku has the Geass effect since R1 Stage 18 and continues to have it R2 and in Lelouch of the Re;surrection.

So, by all accounts, that has to be over two years at this point. The only person who could compete for the longest effect of Lelouch’s Geass is Schneizel.

Kinda a random fact but hey it interested me.

Suzaku Facts Bonus: Suzaku Was the Only One to Have Seen Kallen’s Entire Naked Body

Before you get upset I said Entire Body Rember Lelouch only got a side/ back view of Kallen in R1 Stage 3.

Code Geass R1 Stage 19 is one of the most interesting episodes in the series.

I remember the first time watching with utter confusion and annoyance.

There were also “interesting” moments. The one that relates to this point is the bathing scene where Kallen is showering by the waterfall.

Suzaku of course happens to be around the area and notices her. Kallen takes notice of Suzaku and charges towards him.

This leads to Suzku flipping her over on the ground and we get our second nude scene in the series.

Suzaku has Kallen pinned down naked for quite a while before she puts her clothes back on.

Oddly enough Kallen never acts embarrassed about being nude in front of Suzaku.

Also, Suzaku does not even act any differently either after seeing Kallen naked.

They actually share a conversation and the topic of Kallen being naked never comes up.

In fact, the whole incident never gets brought up again.

I am sure everyone was probably jealous of Suzaku in that scene. My 19-year-old self that first watch it was.

I liked how Suzaku maturely handled the situation where Lelouch acted like a 13-year-old when he saw Kallen naked.

Lelouch embarrassed her while Suzaku ignored it altogether.
